What is the Downtown Centre Guidance Service?
The Downtown Centre Guidance Service aims to connect adult learners (adults aged 18 plus) with third level learning opportunities in the Shannon region and further afield.
It offers:
- Information about access for adult learners to third level education including foundation, access and mature student access programmes.
- A guidance counselling service to assist clients to explore their learning options and to make informed decisions and choices.
- A Personal Action Plan so that people know what they need to do, how to do it and when to do it.
- Software programmes to help people get clear on their values, skills, interests.

Referral to other agencies if you need to know something that we don’t offer.

Who is the Service for
Anyone over the age of 18 who would like to find out about learning opportunities at third level.
Come in and find out what programmes we have to offer through the Shannon Consortium partner institutions or allow us to help you to identify the type of course and method of learning that best suits you.
We also have information on mature student access programmes (you have to be 23 on January 1st of the year in which you want to go to third-level to be considered a ‘mature student’.
